Why this work is needed
People are still being understood in fragments
Healthcare—both physical and mental—is often highly fragmented. A person may move between a GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, allied health professional, school, workplace and family service, with each provider understandably concentrating on one part of the picture. The person, however, must live with all of those parts at once.
This gap is particularly visible for neurodivergent people. Recognition and diagnosis of ADHD, autism and AuDHD have increased, but access to clinicians who understand how neurodivergence interacts with mental health, identity, relationships, family life, education, employment and physical wellbeing has not kept pace.
Established interventions may also require adaptation
Many therapeutic approaches were developed before neurodivergence was routinely recognised or meaningfully included in research and practice. That does not make those approaches ineffective. It does mean they should not be applied as though every brain experiences motivation, reward, communication, emotional expression, connection and change in the same way. A strategy that works beautifully for one person may completely miss another.
Diagnosis is important. It is rarely the end of the story.
- understand who they are;
- rebuild confidence after years of misunderstanding;
- navigate burnout or emotional regulation;
- repair relationships;
- parent a neurodivergent child;
- communicate their needs;
- make practical changes at school or work;
- or integrate new understanding into everyday life.
“The NeuroThrive Institute exists to help close the gap between diagnosis, understanding and practical change.”
How The NeuroThrive Institute responds
Clinical. Educational. Systemic.
People do not develop, struggle or recover in isolation. Individual wellbeing is influenced by what a person understands about themselves, the quality of the relationships around them and the capability of the systems they must navigate. That is why The NeuroThrive Institute works across three connected areas.
♡
Clinical Care
Supporting people directly
Clinical services help people understand distress, strengthen relationships and translate insight into practical change.
- individual psychotherapy
- ADHD & autism support
- diagnostic formulation
- couples & family work
✐
Education
Building understanding and capability
Education helps people recognise what they are seeing, develop shared language and respond with confidence.
- clinician education
- parent workshops
- professional development
- practical resources
♧
Consulting
Improving environments around people
Consulting helps organisations build cultures that better understand and support neurodivergent people.
- service design
- neurodiversity pathways
- leadership development
- inclusive systems
Clinical care supports the person. Education builds understanding. Systems work changes the conditions around them.
These are not separate areas of work. They are three connected responses to the same human experience.
Depth across multiple areas—without losing the whole
The expertise behind the Institute
It is uncommon for one practitioner to develop specialist capability across neurodivergence, mental health, relationships, family systems, parenting, education, leadership, workplaces and organisational development. The NeuroThrive Institute would argue that there are exceptions to every rule. Especially when those areas were never understood as separate to begin with.
Over more than 18 years, Kirby Michaelides has followed the connections between the different parts of human life. Mental health influences relationships. Relationships shape families. Families interact with schools and workplaces. Leadership influences psychological safety. Systems can either nurture human capability or place unnecessary barriers around it.
Each area became part of a larger and increasingly integrated understanding of how people develop, relate, function and grow within the environments they must navigate. The result is not shallow knowledge spread across unrelated subjects. It is a connected body of specialist expertise built around understanding the whole person in context.
🎓
Academic education
Formal education, evidence, theory, clinical frameworks and ongoing professional development provide the foundation for safe, ethical and evidence-informed practice.
💼
More than 18 years of practice experience
Real-world experience supporting individuals, couples, families, clinicians, leaders and organisations has shown how human behaviour actually unfolds outside textbooks and controlled settings.
✨
Lived experience
Personal experience of neurodivergence, adversity, adaptation, identity and growth adds an internal perspective that professional observation alone cannot provide. These three sources are not interchangeable. Together, they support work that is clinically grounded, intellectually rigorous, practical and deeply human.
A different way of seeing complexity
identifying patterns across different areas of life
noticing where apparently separate difficulties influence one another
translating complexity into language people can use
holding several possibilities before settling on one explanation
understanding behaviour within its relational and systemic context
recognising potential that may be obscured by distress, shame, burnout or poor environmental fit
“These areas were never separate. They were always smaller parts of a larger whole, the sum of which is greater than the parts themselves."

We Thrive in complexity amd turn chaos into clarity.
NeuroThrive Clinic is the specialist clinical practice of Kirby Michaelides AMHSW, ADHD & Neurodiversity Specialist.
We provide assessment, clinical formulation, therapy and counselling for adolescents aged 13+, adults, couples, parents and families navigating ADHD, autism, co-occurring ADHD and autism, and complex mental health and neurodivergent presentations.
Our work supports people experiencing emotional dysregulation, executive functioning difficulties, anxiety, depression, burnout, identity concerns, relationship challenges, parenting difficulties and needs that extend across several areas of life.
Care is formulation-led, evidence-informed and grounded in a whole-person understanding of the individual within the context of their relationships, environments, history, strengths and everyday life.
Because neurodivergence rarely affects one area in isolation.
NeuroThrive brings the interacting parts together to build a clearer clinical picture and provide practical therapeutic care that fits the person—not a generic program the person must fit.
